PROTEOMICS is the study of many proteins at once- or a description of proteins in a cell, tissue or cellular organelle on a global scale.
The term Proteomics, and the idea of global analysis stems from Genomics (the first application of global analysis in the Molecular Biology field),
and is a combination of PROTEin and genOMICS, coined by Australian Mark Wilkins in 1994,
while working on the subject at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia.
